Material Innovation Centre
Turning coffee, cacao, vanilla, rice and coconut biomass into the building materials of tomorrow — in collaboration with WSolve.

From by-product to building block
Closing the loop on agricultural waste.
Every kilo of vanilla, cacao or coffee we export creates by-products. Most are burned or discarded. We see them as raw material — fibres, husks and shells with the strength, density and acoustic properties of conventional construction materials.

The Material Innovation Centre is being developed as part of our Tabanan campus — a research, processing and prototyping facility dedicated to converting Indonesian agricultural biomass into panels, blocks, insulation and composite materials for the building industry.

By giving farmers a second income stream from what was previously waste, we extend the value of every harvest while displacing carbon-intensive materials in construction.
Five biomass streams
What we work with.
Coffee
Chaff, husk and pulp from our roasting and processing.
Cacao
Pod husks and shell — abundant by-products of chocolate making.
Vanilla
Spent pods and trimmings from extract production.
Rice
Husk and straw from partner farms across Indonesia.
Coconut
Coir, husk and shell — circular use of palm by-products.

The Process
Collected, characterised, transformed.
Biomass is collected from our farmer cooperatives and processing facilities, then characterised for moisture, fibre length, density and chemical composition.

From there it's combined with natural binders and pressed, extruded or moulded into building components — from acoustic panels and insulation boards to composite blocks and decorative finishes.

In collaboration with WSolve
Proving impact, not just claiming it.
WSolve is now operating in Indonesia through a new collaboration with Common Sense Trading. Together, we shed light on coffee, cacao and vanilla value chains — turning overlooked by-products and material streams into measurable, verifiable, auditable and actionable impact data.
This partnership demonstrates how data-driven insights transform operations from doing good to proving it, creating measurable value for communities and businesses alike.
Marketing & Communications
Highlighting authentic, verifiable impact stories from origin.
Compliance & Reporting
Strengthening regulatory readiness across global markets.
Circular Economy Strategies
Improving resource efficiency and supply chain resilience.
