Sustainability
Our sustainability projects.
Beyond fair prices
Sustainability lives at every step of the supply chain.
Paying fair prices to farmers and helping them reach international markets is only one of our goals in creating sustainability in farming communities. As a company, we strive to promote economic, social and environmental sustainability through every project we touch.

We source our ingredients from farms that use sustainable practices. When you buy from Common Sense Trading, you can trust we have done the research and selected the best possible. We promise to be fully transparent in every decision we make — on our labelling, in stores, and across our entire footprint.
Our commitments
Five pillars guiding every harvest.
Concrete practices we hold ourselves and our partner farms to — measurable, transparent, and continually improving.
Insecticide & Pesticide free foods
Insecticides, herbicides and fungicides — collectively known as pesticides — are chemicals used in agricultural pest control. Their residues settle into the soil, run off into waterways, leach into groundwater, and ultimately find their resting place in our bodies. We do not support the use of these chemicals in our products.
Regenerative farming practices
By talking sustainability with our producers and learning what they care about, we are part of a strong push for regenerative agriculture. Building soil carbon, increasing water retention, supporting soil biology and balancing ecosystem biodiversity is the only way forward.
Ethical treatment of workers
From the farms our ingredients are grown on, to our warehouses and manufacturing facilities, we ensure these environments are safe for all workers and consumers — and that every worker receives their correct wages and entitlements.
Reduced plastic packaging
We are constantly striving to reduce plastic and waste — difficult when shipping airtight packs of spices around the world. We use glass jars wherever possible, and partner with producers reducing their plastic footprint alongside us.
Renewable energy powered
We advocate for and prioritise farmers who grow our ingredients using renewable wind, solar and water energy. Climate change can be tackled in many ways — we believe the potential of renewable energy is one of our greatest collective assets.

"We do the research, so every purchase carries integrity."

Flagship facility
Tabanan, Bali
Featured project
Drying & sorting facilities in Tabanan.
Probably our most exciting project: constructing our own processing and sorting facility in partnership with several local entrepreneurs in Baturiti, Tabanan. A place for training, knowledge sharing, and producing some of the highest grade vanilla in Indonesia — alongside other premium spices.

The plant works directly with growers in the region to encourage more production and guarantee purchase of their harvests. The facility includes sorting, drying, processing and packing areas, all following high HACCP standards.
